3IA Chairs


The 3IA Côte d'Azur is launching in 2021 its second call for applications for 3IA chairs. Five positions are available.

Two kinds of 3IA Chairs are proposed: renewable 4 years senior chairs for full professors, senior researchers (and assimilated), and renewable 3 years junior chairs for assistant/associate professors, junior researchers (and assimilated).

 

Priority will be given in 2021 to young rising researchers, to applications to axis 1 "Core elements of AI" and axis 2 "AI for Integrative Computational Medicine", to applications with strong relationships with supporting companies (an involvement of a researcher from a private company will be a plus), to applications with strong interdisciplinary collaborations (similarly, an involvement of a researcher – public or private – of another discipline will be a plus). 

This call is open to:

  • researchers and teacher-researchers already employed by an establishment within the perimeter of the 3IA Côte d'Azur,
  • candidates to a researcher or teacher-researcher position within the perimeter of the 3IA Côte d’Azur. 
3IA Chair package

- Premium that can be converted in teaching releases according to employer rules for teacher-researchers: 6000€ (gross) per year for senior chairholders (full professors or assimilated) and 4500€ (gross) per year for junior chairholders (associate professors or assimilated)
- Budget allocation to support a basic running cost of 8500 € per year, priority access to 3IA PhD calls (16 positions in 2020), 3IA post-doctoral calls (5 positions in 2020)
- Priority access to resources and collaborative projects with partner companies

Researchers or future researchers commit to 32 hours of teaching per year in the Institute's AI training courses.

How to apply

The application to be sent to 3ia@univ-cotedazur.fr before the deadline indicated in the calendar below will include:

  • curriculum vitæ (max. 5 pages using 10 pt fonts and standard A4 margins),
    • Candidates should justify the nature and quality of their contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence. In addition, they must show that they have acquired a national or international recognition in their domain of research (i.e., awards, coordination of national/international research projects, responsibilities in scientific committees, publications in highly recognised venues).
  • research project (max. 2 pages using 10 pt font and standard A4 margins), indicating her/his contribution to 3IA Côte d’Azur research axis and collaborations with companies, 
  • commitment letter mentioning that the candidate will dedicate half of her/his time to the 3IA Côte d’Azur, including research, education, innovation and outreach activities,
  • official letter from the employer of the candidate stating that the application to the 3IA Côte d'Azur chair programme is approved and supported by the employer.

The received applications will be evaluated by a selection committee composed by the members of the Scientific Committee of the 3IA plus a number of recognised AI experts among the 3IA Chair holders.

Chairs of excellence

The 3IA Côte d'Azur is launching the 2021 call for applications for two 3IA “Chairs of Excellence” positions:

  • Senior research position: renewable 4 years fixed-term contract for a researcher with more than 8 years of experience in research after completing his/her thesis.
  • Junior research position: renewable 3 years fix-term contract for a researcher that has between 2 and 8 years experience in research after completing his/her thesis. This junior chair aims to strengthen axes 2 and 3 of the institute on digital medicine and biology.

These positions are proposed to researchers with an outstanding and international scientific visibility in AI, holding a French or foreign PhD or equivalent degree in the Artificial Intelligence field.

The applicants will have to position their research projects with respect to the 3IA research groups. It is strongly recommended to contact the head of targeted research groups or laboratories before applying. An obligation to teach 64 hours per year in AI in the institute's courses is associated with this full chair.
 

3IA Chair package (full-time chair)
  • Salary: from 4200 € gross monthly for junior research positions and from 5200 € gross monthly for senior research positions according to experience,
  • Budget allocation to support basic running cost of 8 500 € per year, priority access to 3IA PhD calls (e.g. 16 positions in 2020), 3IA post-doctoral calls (e.g. 5 positions in 2020),
  • Priority access to resources and collaborative projects with partner companies (more than 18 M€ for the whole project).

  • research project (max. 2 pages using 10 pt font and standard A4 margins), indicating her/his contribution to 3IA Côte d’Azur research axes and collaborations with companies,
  • commitment letter mentioning that the candidate will dedicate her/his time to the 3IA Côte d’Azur, including research, education, innovation and outreach activities,
  • supporting letter of the candidate’s future employer in the 3IA Côte d’Azur.

International chairs

The 3IA Côte d'Azur is launching a new call for applications for two 3IA “International Chairs” positions. These positions are proposed to active experimented researchers with a high international scientific visibility in AI, holding a foreign PhD or equivalent degree in the Artificial Intelligence field.

  • Duration: possibility to spread over several years, in agreement with the host chair and the employing institution
  • Salary: according to experience
Candidates commit to 32h of teaching per year in the institute’s AI training courses.

Affiliate chairs

The 3IA Côte d'Azur is launching its second call for applications for 3IA affiliate chairs.

An affiliate Chair is a researcher working in a private company, dedicating part of his/her time – typically 10% or 20% – and co-supervising PhD students, giving lectures and having access to the research laboratories.

Affiliate Chairs are awarded by 3IA Côte d’Azur for three years (renewable) and are necessarily proposed by a 3IA chairholder to contribute to its own research project, with the aim of generating collaborations between 3IA and the company.

  • commitment letter from the candidate mentioning that the candidate will dedicate between 10% and 20% of his time to the 3IA Côte d’Azur,
  • commitment letter from the candidate employer supporting the application.

Invited researchers


This call is open to researchers who have a position in a foreign university or research institute.

The duration of the research stay at the 3IA Côte d’Azur will be between one and three months.
