On the 22th June 2023, Université Côte d’Azur hosted the 8th National Day for Missions on Equality and Diversity in Higher Education and Research on the Valrose campus in Nice.

This event, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, brought together equality referents, managers, vice-president's working in the field of equality within universities, Grandes Ecoles, engineering schools and research organizations.

The participants gathered around round tables with the main theme “The integration of gender equality in science”. Lucile Sassatelli, Scientific Director of the EFELIA Côte d'Azur project, and Equality referent for UCA and for the I3S laboratory, spoke about the effects of the under-representation of women in the field of AI. She presented training as a lever to better understand AI systems and their ethical issues and she insisted on the need for multidisciplinarity for a solid scientific approach.

This round table was an opportunity for Lucile Sassatelli to recall that teaching AI should always include the question of gender and the importance of systematizing the use of an inclusive vocabulary, both in writing and in oral speech. The impulses of European, national and local funding bodies are a real lever for both developing and making visible these questions and the related scientific challenges. The EFELIA Côte d'Azur project fits and aligns with its diversity commitments.
