W3C appoints Fabien Gandon to co-lead new Web & AI Interest Group

Fabien Gandon, 3IA Côte d'Azur Chairholder and Research Director at Inria, has been appointed co-chair of the newly created Web & AI Interest Group at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

This strategic group will explore how artificial intelligence technologies are impacting and intersecting with Web technologies, analyzing their ethical, societal, and technical implications.

The Interest Group's mission is to provide a forum for discussing AI's broad and evolving impact on the Web, coordinating with various W3C groups working on AI-related specifications, and identifying opportunities for future standardization work. Key focus areas include developing landscape overviews of emerging AI protocols, analyzing privacy and security implications, and examining topics such as web machine learning, AI agents, and knowledge representation.

This appointment recognizes Fabien Gandon's internationally renowned expertise in semantic web technologies and knowledge representation, fields that are increasingly critical as AI systems become more deeply integrated into web infrastructure. His leadership will help shape how the web community addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by the convergence of AI and Web technologies.
