Rafael Silva awarded the second place of the Prix Pierre Laffitte 2025

The 3IA Côte d'Azur team extends its warmest congratulations to Rafael Silva, 3IA Ph.D. (Chair of Maxime Sermesant), who was awarded the second place of the 2025 Prix Pierre Laffitte.

The work of Rafael Silva (3IA Ph.D.), carried out under the supervision of Maxime Sermesant (3IA Chairholder), focused on developing a frugal artificial intelligence for real-time detection of cardiac arrest, for integration into a next-generation portable defibrillator. This work received the second place in the 2025 Prix Pierre Laffitte, recognizing its scientific innovation and societal impact.

In collaboration with the startup Inn’Pulse based in Grasse and represented by Guillaume Pétriat, Pierre-Henri Cadet, and Thierry Tibi, and with he support of Caroline Stehlé, a 3IA Techpool engineer, he designed an AI model capable of analyzing the heart’s electrical activity (ECG) with accuracy exceeding 99%, while operating on an low-resource microcontroller. This approach, combining algorithmic optimization, quantization, and neural architecture search, enables faster, more autonomous, and more accessible cardiac defibrillation. The project demonstrates excellence in applied research serving both public health and French industry, leading the way for miniaturized, sustainable, and low-cost medical devices.

The 3IA Côte d'Azur team would also like to congratulate Eloïse Da Cunha, 3IA Ph.D. (Chair of François Bremond), who participated as a finalist in the 2025 Prix Pierre Laffitte. On this occasion, she presented her work on the use of speech and artificial intelligence to predict, monitor and prevent pathological aging.
Learn more about her work with two videos: "Revolutionizing neurodegenerative screening through speech" and "Your voice, a mirror of your health".
