Interview de Carole Deumié Directrice de Centrale Méditerranée membre du consortium 3IA Côte d'Azur
Interview of Carole Deumié, Director of Centrale Méditerranée
The 3IA Côte d'Azur Institute is a consortium led by Université Côte d'Azur, comprising prestigious establishments: Centre Inria d'Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS, EURECOM, Inserm, and Skema Business School (since 2019), plus Centrale Méditerranée and École de l'Air et de l'Espace (since 2024).
Today, let's take a closer look at Centrale Méditerranée, through an interview with its Director, Carole Deumié.
Could you briefly present your establishment?
Created in 2006 under the name Centrale Marseille, our school became Centrale Méditerranée in 2022, affirming a new ambition with a dual location in Marseille and Nice. These two regions, with their complementary profiles, provide us with tremendous educational and scientific leverage.
The second campus, in Nice, has created a strong innovation dynamic around the major challenges of the ecological and digital transition, including the development of artificial intelligence, which is at the heart of our site policy.
For what reason(s) did your institution join the 3IA Côte d'Azur consortium?
Centrale Méditerranée has joined the 3IA Côte d'Azur consortium to strengthen its research and training strategy, and to actively contribute to the major societal challenges linked to AI. We plan to recruit new lecturers and researchers in artificial intelligence over the next five years to support this momentum.
Our membership is part of an ecosystem of scientific excellence, unique in the South of France, bringing together renowned partners such as the CNRS, Inria, Inserm, EURECOM, SKEMA Business School, and the École de l'air et de l'espace.
Joining the 3IA Côte d'Azur 2030 project was a natural step: a benchmark centre of excellence in artificial intelligence in the south of France, at the heart of the most ambitious national initiatives, to which Centrale Méditerranée is now contributing.
What prospect(s) in connection with AI do you envisage for your school?
Our ambition is to provide the consortium with our expertise in engineering and digital sciences, in order to strengthen the work on major themes such as:
▸ Space observation
▸ Preservation of the environment and life itself,
▸ The development of responsible and ethical AI.
By joining 3IA Côte d'Azur, we are confirming our desire to train committed engineers capable of inventing solutions for a sustainable future, and our strong commitment to research in artificial intelligence for the benefit of society.
