The IABM Society was officially established in November 2025 to unite and support the French-speaking scientific community working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biomedical imaging.
Following the 2025 French Colloquium on Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging (IABM 2025) held in Nice, the 4th edition of the IABM conference took place from March 9 to 11, 2026 in Lyon.
Launched in 2019 at the initiative of the AI chairs from 3IA Côte d'Azur (Sophia Antipolis), MIAI (Grenoble) and PR[AI]RIE (Paris), the IABM conference series aims to unite the scientific community around methodological advances in artificial intelligence applied to biological and medical imaging, as well as their clinical and preclinical applications.
Since its first edition in 2023, which brought together around 200 participants, the event has seen steady growth (with 350 registered attendees and 200 posters this year) and now extends beyond the AI CLUSTERS network.
Université Côte d'Azur and the AI CLUSTER 3IA CÔTE D'AZUR were represented at this edition by twelve participants: three chairholders, one senior researcher, one postdoctoral researcher and seven doctoral students. The university's teams also contributed to the scientific programme with three of the sixteen "poster highlights", as well as a keynote.
To structure and consolidate this scientific network, a dedicated IABM society was officially established in November 2025.
The Society for Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging (IABM) is a non-profit organisation, governed by the French law of July 1, 1901. Its objective is to support and animate the French-speaking research and teaching community in the field of artificial intelligence applied to biomedical imaging.
IABM works to strengthen the visibility and structure of this rapidly growing scientific discipline, at the interface between digital sciences, mathematics, physics and medicine. The association fosters networking among researchers, educators, clinicians and industry professionals, and encourages the development of collaborative projects at national and international level.
Its main activities include:
- The regular organisation of conferences, summer schools and seminars, promoting scientific exchange and the training of early-career researchers;
- The promotion of research and training initiatives in coordination with other French and European organisations;
- The dissemination of scientific advances and best practices in the field of AI applied to biomedical imaging.
It is also worth noting that the society includes a young scientists network.
The association is governed by a pluralistic board of directors, including
Maxime Sermesant, 3IA Côte d'Azur chairholder, ensuring balanced representation of the various thematic areas, institutions and member laboratories. All its members, whether individuals or organisations, contribute voluntarily to its activities, in a spirit of scientific cooperation and openness.
