ERC Advanced Grant Paolo Papotti
Professor Paolo Papotti (EURECOM), AI Cluster 3IA Côte d'Azur Chairholder, has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant 2025 for his project GENESIS.
The project addresses a key limitation of current AI systems: their inability to natively understand the structure of relational databases. Today's models tend to treat tabular data as plain text, losing the relationships between records that give data its meaning, a significant obstacle in data-intensive fields such as finance, healthcare, and scientific research.
GENESIS will develop lighter, more accurate AI models designed to work directly with live database structures, while keeping data private and secure. The project is aligned with European principles of digital sovereignty and responsible AI.
