Océane Fiant, junior fellow in AI & Sociology, joined the University Côte d’Azur in October in EFELIA-3IA Côte d’Azur.

We asked Océane to introduce herself:

“I am Océane Fiant, Junior Fellow in AI & Sociology within the EFELIA project at 3IA Côte d’Azur and member of GREDEG’s INNOS team.

Trained in philosophy, I hold a PhD from Nantes University, where I specialized in the philosophy and history of medical technologies. My doctoral dissertation, titled ‘Les algorithmes avant l’intelligence artificielle : enjeux, pratiques et contextes de l’automatisation de la décision médicale à partir de deux cas d'étude,’ focused on algorithmic decision-support systems in medicine.

Following my PhD, I pursued a post-doctoral fellowship on machine learning in oncology at the University of Technology of Compiègne. This position was part of an interdisciplinary project funded by the French National Cancer Institute. Collaborating with several cancer centers across France, I gained a comprehensive understanding of AI, particularly focusing on its explainability, the transformation of medical expertise it drives, and its integration into clinical environments.

Today, as part of the EFELIA project, I am enthusiastic about contributing to reflective and critical AI education. I believe it is imperative to provide future AI users and designers with the tools to engage with this technology in an informed and responsible way.”

Welcome to the 3IA Côte d'Azur Institute!
